Hazard Tree Assessment
Red oaks and pin oaks tend to get decay in the trunk and the root system which causes them to fail catastrophically. I have been watching a particular, monster pin oak for several years because I knew it had substantial decay and it had all the signs of a tree that was getting ready to fail. I mentioned it to the owner several years ago but nothing was done. I figured it was only a matter of time before we had a real mess and possibly serious injury. I was happy to see that the tree was finally removed before the tree failed. A large amount of decay was clearly visible in the interior parts of the base at the tree. This is one of the things that a consulting arborist with a tree risk assessment qualification knows to look for. Not all decay is an automatic removal. A great number of trees can live for years, if not indefinitely, with a significant amount of decay, if managed properly. We know what to look for and how to do it.
