The party's almost over

8 to 14 Day Outlook - Temperature Probability

Warm weather is predominating over the eastern US and Ohio valley this week after a November which saw above normal snowfall and slightly below normal temperatures, and a December which saw much above normal temperatures and, despite considerable cold, still averaged above normal in temperature.

We saw the recent warming coming a long time ago, but a return to cold, and snow for some, has looked likely for the last half of January and February for some time. That pattern change is taking shape now. After some late week rain, temperatures will turn colder by Sunday with some flurries or light snow showers possible, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. An arctic front will come south later next week, plunging us back into more substantial cold in an active weather pattern, meaning winter storm systems.

Now, the devil is always in the details and even in a cold pattern there is no guarantee Cincinnati will see heavy snow. Even in a cold pattern, a strong winter storm with a more northern track can pull more warm air north allowing for rain or ice up into the Ohio valley. A track too far south means the snow goes south of Cincinnati, but temperatures would likely remain more consistently cold.

Time will tell how it all plays out but be prepared for winter's return and at least chances for meaningful snow. Stay tuned.
